Dance Explorations Beyond Front@

Dance Explorations Beyond Front@ (Beyond Front@) stimulates and supports the production and presentation of contemporary dance for artists and audiences in the border regions of northeastern Slovenia, southeastern Austria, western Hungary and northeastern Croatia. The five main participating organizers: Flota (Murska Sobota, SLO), Hrvatski Institut za pokret i ples / Tjedan suvremenog plesa (Dance Week Festival) (HIPP-TSP) (Zagreb, HR), cie Frenak (Budapest, HU), Dance Identity/D.ID (Pinkafeld, AT), and OHO (Oberwart, AT) unite expertise and experiences with local and international artists and audiences to create a new collaborative venture in contemporary dance.
The project activities centre around four areas of cultural activity/action:
1. Performances Beyond Front@ to present high quality professional contemporary dance performances by choreographers/companies from the four participating countries and at Front@ Festival of Contemporary Dance (Murska Sobota), Dance Week Festival (Zagreb), and Burgenländischen Tanzwochen (Oberwart) and Trafo venue in Budapest.
2. Audiences Beyond Front@ to increase audience accessibility and mobility to culture through specially designed actions that can make culture more accessible (free transportation across borders, transportation for student groups, special performances for student or other targeted groups).
3. Dialogue Beyond Front@ to foster cross-cultural dialogue and exchange among artists and audiences who attend those festivals; to generate dialogue and interest about the cutting edge issues of contemporary dance through formal and informal public discussions, theoretical debates and gatherings of diverse audiences and artists, as well as a workshop for pedagogues and a 2-day conference.
4. DCL (”diesel”) - Dance Communication Lab to provide fuel for artists by organically develop new collaborations among young professional dancers and artists whose work intersects the dance field (architects, designers, video/filmmakers, visual artists, musicians) by producing a series of cross-cultural contemporary dance improvisation evenings.
5. Creation Beyond Front@ to develop cross-cultural co-productions among the participating countries and to encourage artistic production and performance by young artists.
Project goals include:
1. to present high quality professional contemporary dance performances by choreographers/companies from the four participating countries and other European nations at Front@ Festival of Contemporary Dance (Murska Sobota), Dance Week Festival (Zagreb), Burgenländischen Tanzwochen (Oberwart) and Trafo (Budapest);
2. to increase audience accessibility and mobility to culture by providing transport to audiences to help them more easily access activities across the border;
3. to generate dialogue and interest about the cutting edge issues of contemporary dance through informal gatherings and ;
4. to organically develop new collaborations among young professional dancers and artists whose work intersects the dance field (architects, designers, visual artists, musicians) by producing a series of cross-cultural contemporary dance improvisation evenings called Dance Communication Lab - DCL;
5. to foster new cross-cultural co-productions among artists as a result of the activities of DCL.
